I hope everyone’s start to 2013 is going well!  With another new year, I’m looking forward to whatever amazing movies are on the way and to any older ones I see for the first time.  In either case, movie-watching brings about many new favorites to the list of those I already love.  I also still have to catch a few of the movies nominated for the upcoming award programs, the results of which I can’t wait!

My other three DVDs arrived in the mail a few days ago.  With “Moonrise Kingdom” among them, that will be the first I’ll see of nominated movies since the first of this season’s award news began.  According to IMDB, “Moonrise Kingdom” is up for Critics’ Choice and Golden Globe awards, among its many other successes listed.  Other definite favorites of mine to see, prior to the award programs airing, include:

  • “Lincoln”
  • “Les Miserables”
  • “Anna Karenina”
  • “Django Unchained”
  • “The Master”
  • “Argo”

Two of the movies I’m most looking forward to so far in 2013 are:

  • “Oz: The Great and Powerful”
  • “The Great Gatsby”

Just between those two, their casts have so many of my favorite actors and actresses starring in them.  I also love the trailers for each that I’ve seen to this point.

What movies do you look forward to the most this year?

I love getting new DVDs to add to my collection when I can, picking out six new ones with some birthday / Christmas money and store points.  Out of what I chose, I’ve only seen one of them.  So, as a preview to upcoming content, I’ve got a good variety of movies to watch and about which to blog.  Along with those, I have some draft posts to work on about other movies.

Judging from its trailer, “The Raven” (2012) will be a bit of a challenge to watch, but I’m a fan of Edgar Allan Poe.  With its atmospheric trailer and fairy tale basis, “Red Riding Hood” (2011) is another eerie movie I’ve been meaning to see.  As for “The Good Doctor” (2011), I’ve been curious about Orlando Bloom’s villainous title role after many heroic characters.

The other three DVDs were ordered online and they’re still on the way.  Those include this year’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” the 1996 version of “Hamlet” and “Lords of Dogtown” (2005).  It’s the latter of those that I’ve already seen and love it for so many reasons, which I’ll save for writing about later.

Did you get any movies on Blu-Ray / DVD this year?  If so, which ones?
