It’s hard to believe that Election 2012 is almost over and how close the candidates’ campaigning brought them in various polls.  I’ve been watching the political news closely, from the debates to all the analysis of how President Obama and Gov. Romney were perceived.  Despite my interest in presidential election news every four years, that interest isn’t reflected much in my DVD collection.  Maybe I’ve been keeping politics out of a source of entertainment, to a degree.

The movies I have that relate the most to politics are military / war movies, such as “Paths of Glory,” which I had to watch for a film class last spring.  Others include “Top Gun,” “The Patriot” and “Flyboys.”  Then there are movies in my collection which have politics as one of the themes within the overall story.  In “Marie Antoinette,” a revolution eventually takes place among the less fortunate as the title character has been living lavishly.  That’s just one example of a movie set in long-ago historical times with societal politics between vastly different income classes.

If I were to start collecting DVDs of movies about politics itself, these are a few I’d most likely add.  With all my views aside about political parties and social issues, I think these are great for the acting talent and also because my interest in history draws me to biopic films.  I haven’t seen all of movies below, but there are a lot of my favorite actors and actresses throughout the entire list.

  • “All the President’s Men” (1976)
  • “JFK” (1991)
  • “The Queen” (2006)
  • “Frost / Nixon” (2008)
  • “W.” (2008)
  • “Milk” (2008)
  • “The Iron Lady” (2011)

If you have some political movie favorites, which ones are they?
