These are some DVDs I’d like to add to my collection, little by little.  Those in the first list of movies are the ones I’ve already seen.  I watched some of them for the first time in film and English literature classes, after reading the novels for the latter.  Others are a variety of favorites I’ve seen on my own time.

  • “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006)
  • “Lords of Dogtown” (2005)
  • “Julie & Julia” (2009)
  • “Leap Year” (2010)
  • “Wendy and Lucy” (2008)
  • “Benny & Joon” (1993)
  • “American Graffiti” (1973)
  • “A Streetcar Named Desire” (1951)
  • “On the Waterfront” (1954)
  • “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975)
  • “An Education” (2009)
  • “Contagion” (2011)
  • “Some Like It Hot” (1959)
  • “Run Lola Run” (1998)
  • “The Awful Truth” (1937)
  • “North by Northwest” (1959)
  • “Persepolis” (2007)
  • “2001: A Space Odyssey”
  • “Barry Lyndon” (1975)
  • “Titanic” (1997) – the new Blu-Ray / DVD edition

The movies listed below are the ones I haven’t seen at all and it amazes me about some of them.    My film classes allowed me to catch up on seeing a number of great classics for the first time, start to finish.  “The Graduate” was one of the films discussed and I saw a few clips of it in class when some students chose to write term papers and do presentations on it.  Outside of my film studies, I just haven’t caught it from the beginning on TV.  For a few of these films, I heard brief mentions by classmates and for others, I’ve recently seen posts of them on other social media sites.  Being curious about some movies and reminded of others, I had some good movies to add to my collection after looking up more info (trailers, summaries, release years) on IMDB.

  • “Hamlet” (1996)
  • “Finding Neverland” (2004)
  • “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004)
  • “Carnage” (2011)
  • “The Graduate” (1967)
  • “Shop Girl” (2005)
  • “Paris, je t’aime” (2006)
  • “Amelie” (2001)
  • “Ondine” (2009)
  • “The Letter” (2012)
  • “Drive” (2011)
  • “One Day” (2011)
  • “Big Miracle” (2012)
  • “Chimpanzee” (2012)
  • “Across the Universe” (2007)
  • “Memento” (2000)

Even after I buy just a couple of these, I’m going to need a bigger space for my DVD collection.  The VCR could go, for starters, but I might also use a bookcase for more DVD storage space.
